The circular vibrating screen is the standard sizing machine in dry crushing circuits. It usually follows a cone crusher, splitting the product into on-size grinding feed and oversize that returns to the crusher in closed circuit. The YK series uses an inclined deck and a rotating eccentric to generate a circular throw, which is efficient at scalping and sizing coarse, dry material.

How it works

An eccentric shaft and counterweights spin to drive the screen box in a circular orbit, typically inclined 15-25 degrees. The circular motion tosses material forward and stratifies the bed so heavy fines settle and pass through the aperture while oversize travels to discharge. Single, double or triple decks let one machine produce two, three or four size fractions at once.

Selection logic

Screen area is driven by the tonnage to each cut, the near-size content and whether the duty is wet or dry. As a rule of thumb, the finer the cut and the more near-size material, the more screen area you need, because near-mesh particles are the hardest to pass. Xinhai sizes deck area, stroke and inclination to your gradation, and offers polyurethane, woven-wire or perforated-plate media to balance open area against wear life.

  • Circular throw from an eccentric shaft, efficient on coarse dry feed
  • Single to triple deck for multiple fractions
  • Adjustable stroke and inclination
  • Polyurethane, wire-mesh or steel screen media

Wet vs dry and screen media

For wet sizing or fine cuts in slurry, a linear or high-frequency screen may suit better, but for dry, coarse classification after crushing the circular screen is the cost-effective choice. The biggest operating issues are blinding and pegging on near-size and damp feed; polyurethane media with tapered apertures resists both and lasts longer than wire on abrasive ore. Matching media open area to the cut also matters: too little open area chokes capacity, while too much can pass oversize, so the media specification is part of the sizing work, not an afterthought.

Gold Trommel Screen | Rotary Wash & Scrubbing Plant https://xinhai.xpyseo.com/products/gold-trommel-screen/ Wed, 17 Jun 2026 16:57:54 +0000 https://xinhai.xpyseo.com/products/gold-trommel-screen/ What a gold trommel does in a placer plant

The gold trommel screen is the front end of most placer and alluvial gold operations. Run-of-mine gravel is fed into a slowly rotating perforated drum where high-pressure water sprays scrub clay and liberate fine gold. Undersize fines pass through the screen and report to gravity recovery, while oversize cobbles and trash tumble out the end. It combines washing, scrubbing and sizing in one unit, which is why it is the workhorse of mobile and semi-mobile wash plants.

How it works

The drum is lined with screen panels (commonly 6-20 mm aperture) and inclined a few degrees toward discharge. As it rotates, lifters cascade the material through the spray bars, dispersing sticky clay so liberated gold can pass through the screen. The clean undersize slurry then flows to a centrifugal concentrator or sluice for recovery.

Selection logic

Trommel sizing comes down to feed rate, clay content and the gold’s size distribution. A rule of thumb: choose screen aperture just above the coarsest gold you expect to lose, so nuggets that should report to oversize do not blind the screen. Heavy clay needs longer drum residence time and more water (typically 1-3 m³ of water per m³ of feed). Xinhai builds the drum length, aperture and spray layout around your specific ground conditions.

  • Wash, scrub and size in a single drum
  • Replaceable screen panels in rubber or steel
  • Adjustable spray bars for clay-heavy ground
  • Skid or wheel-mounted options for mobile sites

Throughput, water and recovery

Realistic placer recovery depends far more on liberating fine gold than on raw drum capacity, so resist over-feeding: a trommel run within its rated tonnage and well watered passes more gold than one choked with dry, sticky feed. Worn screen panels and pegged apertures are the most common causes of gold loss, so panels are designed for quick swap-out.
